Portable Air Conditioning Units
Portable Air Conditioning Units are a great way to keep any room cool. As the name implies, this type of air conditioner is one that does not need permanent installation. This provides great flexibility for owners as it can be moved from room to room, cooling only the areas that the operator chooses. Another bonus of having a portable air conditioning unit is that it is a fantastic solution for people living in rental housing or for anyone planning to move in the near future.
The way portable air conditioning units work is that they take in warm air from their surrounding areas through special inlets, or some models use a vented hose that sucks in air from outdoors. Evaporator coils with refrigerant air circulating through them then cool the air as it moves through the unit. This cool air is blown out the front of the unit, and the hot air gets expelled through an exhaust hose. This process repeats until the room reaches the temperature selected by the user.
Portable air conditioning units usually comes with a window venting kit which is generally simple and easy to fit. The venting kit gets placed in the window and then the exhaust hose is attached to the window kit in the right place. As well as having to expel the hot air from the unit, the dehumidification that takes place during the cooling process produces condensation. This water gets collected in an internal reservoir or there are some models that pump it out through a drain line.
There are a several of types of units available when it comes to portable cooling.
Single Hosed Units
One single exhaust hose runs to the vent kit to expel the hot air in this type of cooling.
Double Hosed Units
As the name implies, this style unit has two hoses. There is an exhaust hose and an intake hose. Firstly, the exhaust hose is used to vent out the hot air, next the intake hose draws in air for the unit to cool. A more powerful level of cooling is provided with these models as opposed to single hose units.
Reverse Cycle Units
A versatile unit that provides both heating and cooling is a great choice for many homes. As the name implies, the cooling function can be reversed so it actually draws in cool air and expels heat. The level of heat produced is in no way as much as that of a dedicated electric or gas heating unit, although it can definitely take the chill out of a cool day.
When looking Portable Air Conditioning Units, there are models available to suit a multitude of different needs. Whatever your need and wherever you require cooling, putting up with unbearable temperatures is a thing of the past as there is a solution for you to beat the heat.
